“Black History, Black Voices,” A Black History Month Performance

(February 19, 2010) —The Theater Program of Fairleigh Dickinson University presents a Black History Month performance entitled “Black History, Black Voices: A Celebration of African-American Theatre.” The play will be performed on Thursday, February 25, 2010, from 7:30 p.m. -8:30p.m., and Friday, February 26, 2010, from 4:00p.m.to 5:00p.m.

“Black History, Black Voices,” is unique, as it will be the first all-black cast to perform in the Theater Program at FDU. The performance will consist of a selection of works by black authors, including August Wilson, Nikki Giovanni, and George C. Wolfe, performed by FDU students.

“I have chosen this material,” said Stacie Lents, an assistant professor of theater and the director of this show, “as representative of the contributions African-American writers have made to the landscape of contemporary American theater and acting in this country. This production really celebrates the diversity in the theater program and the college.”

This performance will also be the first performance in the newly improved Barn Theater. The Barn Theater was renovated as part of a $100,000 grant from the Peter Jay Sharp Foundation.

Fairleigh Dickinson’s Becton College of Arts of Sciences and the Theater Program present this Black History Month performance.
